Coleman Ekes Out Victory in the 100m at BirminghamPublished by
Coleman, Korir, Miller-Uibo Shine in Birmingham By Doug Binder, DyeStat Editor Christian Coleman's early burst of speed in the 100 meters probably made the difference Saturday in Birmingham, as he picked up a Diamond League victory by mere inches -- if that -- over British sprinter Reece Prescod. RESULTS Coleman and Prescod were both timed officially in 9.94. But the margin was very slim -- 9.938 for Coleman and 9.939 for Prescod. Noah Lyles was third in 9.98 seconds. In the 800 meters, Kenyan Emmanuel Korir dipped under 1:43 again, this time running 1:42.80 for his second-fastest performance of the season. In a showdown with recently crowned European champion Dina Asher-Smith, Olympic 400-meter champion Shaunae Miller-Uibo of the Bahamas won the women's 200 in 22.15 seconds and demonstrated unmatched strength down the home straight. Asher-Smith of England was second in 22.31 and Dafne Schippers of The Netherlands was third in 22.41. Swirling winds played havoc with the women's pole vault, where U.S. star Sandi Morris beat Olympic champion Katerina Stefanidi, 15-1.75 (4.62m) to 14-10 (4.52m). More news |
